Q. What does Jury Service cover?

A. Jury Service is something that many people find interesting and rewarding, but if you’re self-employed the financial implications of attending court can mount up in lost earnings. Aside from some exclusions, such as having been in prison within the last 10 years, you must do jury service when you’re asked, though under certain circumstances you may be able to defer it. While you can claim expenses and some loss of income from the courts service, these amounts may not cover your full income, potentially leaving you out of pocket.

Our Jury Service cover is designed to pay the policyholder a daily amount of £100 for the first 10 days (the usual amount of time required for jury service) and £50 per day thereafter, so while we can’t guarantee that your full income will be maintained, it should help. You cannot take this cover out if you have already been called for jury service.

Q. What does Personal Accident cover?

A. As someone who runs a business, and who therefore depends on being able to work to generate an income, being unable to work as the result of an accident at work is likely to be a significant concern. Personal Accident cover is designed to provide a weekly income if you are unable to work as the result of an accident sustained at work.

Personal Accident cover is only available as part of our Plus cover.

Q. What does Personal Tools cover provide?

A. When selected, our Personal Tools cover provides 24 hour cover for loss of, or damage to, powered and non-powered hand held tools of all types belonging to, leased to, on hire purchase, loan or hired to you or your Employees. This cover includes European Union, including in transit. An Excess of £50 applies to all claims, which increases to £100 for losses from vehicles.

Tools cover is available on our Classic and Plus covers.

Q. How much Personal Tools cover can I have?

A. Your personal tools are likely to be a critical part of your work as a tradesperson, and therefore knowing that they are adequately protected is likely to be a key consideration. With our Standard and Plus cover, we automatically include £1,000 of tools cover, and you can increase this up to £5,000.

Tools cover is available on our Classic and Plus covers.

Q. What does Contract Works cover?

A. The “Contract Works” extension provides cover for loss of or damage to the contract works for which you are responsible occurring at the contract location itself, or in transit to and from. It is designed to cover a property that is under construction, including un-used materials, and to cover claims arising from events such as fire, storm damage or malicious damage. Q. What does Hired in Plant cover?

This cover option can provide cover for loss of or damage to hired-in contractor’s plant of all types including scaffolding, temporary buildings and site office contents, anywhere within the European Union. So, if you have hired-in plant, and under your hiring agreement you are liable to pay for damages sustained to this equipment, this cover is designed to pay those costs. We offer cover limits of between £10,000 and £250,000. An Excess of £250 applies to each claim against this cover.

Q. What does Owned Plant cover?

A. The “Owned Plant” extension provides cover for loss of or damage to contractor’s plant of all types including scaffolding, temporary buildings, site office contents and site welfare facilities. This cover is applicable within the European Union. We offer cover levels of between £2,500 and £250,000. An Excess of £250 is applicable to each claim against this cover.

Q. What does Stock in Trade and Transit cover?

A. In additional to any Personal Tools cover you may have, you may wish to extend your policy to include stock and spare items. This extends your policy to provide 24 hour cover for loss of, or damage to, stock and spares in your custody and control for which you are responsible during loading and unloading, or whilst in any vehicle belonging to or operated by you. When added, we offer cover level from £1K to £5K. An Excess of £100 is applicable to this additional cover.
